Patrick thank you for sharing these videos, it restores my faith in humanity! It is lovely to see that these things exist in real life and can act as templates for other areas.

While I'd love to see more protected bike lanes in Tokyo and Kawasaki, where I live, I'm delighted at how integrated cycling is into Japan's transportation system. I couldn't believe the size of the first underground bicycle parking garage I saw.

With you on that for sure. In Osaka, safe routes along main streets were spotty especially going into the city center. My wife and I always figured out the odd zig zag routes through interior neighborhoods, which carried us clear across Osaka sometimes. It was slower and we got lost a whole lot. But it felt more safe and interesting to be rolling through all sorts of small neighborhood alleys, so I somehow started to prefer that experience. Not sure the same is always possible around Tokyo. I remember in California seeing a few marked 'cycle routes' that go through suburban neighborhoods, where they would actually plan the major street crossings to benefit bicycles, which was cool, but sadly also rare. It feels like we know how to get things done right, but have trouble pulling it all together nicely?
